5 Plastic-Free Ways to Appreciate Mum this Mother’s Day

Posted by Kath Austin on

Mother’s Day 2019 is just around the corner: Sunday 31st March just in case you’ve been missing any hints from the Mothers around you! From flowers wrapped in cellophane and boxes of chocolates laid out neatly in a moulded plastic tray, what have become typical Mother’s Day presents are teeming with single-use plastic.

Want to show the Mother figures in your life how much they mean to you without polluting our oceans? Or think your kids might need some plastic-free gift ideas (read no further and share this link!)? Here are 5 tips to show Mum your appreciation for all she does for you without compromising Mother Nature.

1) Give Mum your time

Mother’s Day this year is a day when all I want is to be with my kids. Time is my favourite gift and frankly it’s all my young girls truly want too! As a business owner, I don’t get to spend as much time with them as I’d like, so some quality Mother-Daughter time is top of my wishlist for the 31st! So why don’t you pop over for a cup of tea, take her out for lunch or give her a call if seeing her isn’t possible. Whatever time you can spare, I know it will make her day!

2) Feed Mum with love

Forget about a way to a man’s heart, the way to a woman’s heart is also through her stomach and something edible is definitely up there on my Mother’s Day wishlist! Why not treat her with a special Mother’s Day breakfast or brunch in bed (check out Tasty’s site for some fab recipe ideas), cook her a slap-up Sunday lunch or bake her something yummy? For double brownie points, you could wrap your baked deliciousness in a BeeBee Wrap, then she’ll have a beautiful Mother’s Day present which lasts after the final crumbs have been devoured!

3) Give Mum something to look forward to

If you can’t spend the 31st together (or even if you can) how about giving your wonderful Mum something to look forward to? Experience presents are always appreciated and they don’t have to be pricey. From a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea to a scenic walk at your local Wetland Centre (ours is Welney and it’s glorious!), there’s nothing better than the excitement of having something to look forward to!

4) Make Mum something special

You don’t have to be the next Da Vinci to treat your Mum to a homemade Mother’s Day present! A photo says a thousand words, and printing them doesn’t require too much creativity or time (bonus!), so why not tell your Mum how much she means to you with a photo album? If an entire album feels too daunting, choose a few family favourites and make her a heartfelt card - that way you also skip out on the plastic-wrapped shop-bought cards too!

5) Give your Mum flowers which will last a year (and fresh 'as a daisy' sandwiches too)!

BeeBee Wraps make awesome gifts: beautiful, functional and thoughtful. You definitely can’t go wrong! Unlike flowers (which sadly tend to come wrapped in cellophane), they will happily slip through her letterbox so you can send them directly to Mum! All you need to do is pick your pack size and design here and we’ll do the rest. Easy!

Order yours before Thursday 28th March to make sure they reach Mum in time for Mothering Sunday.
